Major Exams for International Admissions

Students have to pass one or more additional tests before they can be considered by most universities for admission. These range from the standardised graduate and college admission tests such as GRE, GMAT, ACT and SAT to English Language tests, such as TOEFL and IELTS.

SAT - Scholastic Assessment Test

SAT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions for their Undergraduate programs. The SAT is a multiple-choice, pencil-and-paper test created and administered by the College Board. The purpose of the SAT is to measure a high school student's readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants.

GMAT – Graduate Management Admission Test

GMAT is a computer adaptive test intended to assess certain analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in written English along with the data sufficiency, logic, and critical reasoning skills for use in admission to a graduate management program, such as an MBA program. The GMAT exam is designed to test skills that are highly important to business and management programs.

GRE - Graduate Record Examinations

GRE is a standardized test the score on which is required by many graduate schools in the United States and Canada for admission into their Graduate programs. The GRE, owned and administered by Educational Testing Service, tests a student on three different skills – Verbal Reasoning Skills, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing Skills.

ACT - American College Testing

ACT is a standardized test used for college admissions in the United States at the Undergraduate level. It is administered by ACT, which is a non-profit organization. The ACT test covers four academic skill areas: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science Reasoning. It also offers an optional direct writing test.

TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language

TOEFL is a standardized test to measure the English language ability of non-native speakers wishing to enrol in English-speaking universities. The test is accepted by many English-speaking academic and professional institutions.

IELTS - International English Language Testing System

IELTS is an international standardised test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers. It uses a nine-band scale to clearly identify levels of proficiency, from non-user (band score 1) through to expert (band score 9).
