A beautiful, clever, and rich twenty-one year old girl, living with her father in their huge estate, the somewhat spoilt Emma Woodhouse finds pleasure in trying to make romantic matches for her friends even though she herself seemingly has no interest in falling in love or getting married.
After successfully playing matchmaker in the union of Miss Taylor, her long time governess and friend, with Mr Weston, Emma, blinded by her false pride and false belief in her matchmaking abilities, takes young Harriet Smith under her wing, with the target of finding a suitable match for her. No one except Mr Knightley, a trusted friend of the Woodhouses, criticizes her and advises whenever necessary. However, it is not immediately that Emma realises her naivety; a lot happens before she realises the consequences of her actions as a self-proclaimed matchmaker.
The interesting story follows Emma as she continues meddling with the lives of others and details her own self-discovery and her own unrealised love!
